Obiettivi formativi
Il corso svilupperà l’abilità degli studenti a:
Comprendere idee e dottrine vediche, buddhiste ed est-asiatiche relative al tema delle pratiche e delle antropo-tecniche (filosofiche, religiose, letterarie, mitologiche, rituali, meditative), entro i rispettivi contesti culturali;
Spiegare le idee fondamentali sul tema della pratica in ciascun sistema dottrinale affrontato;
Riconoscere e usare propriamente il lessico filosofico e religioso specifico delle dottrine presentate nel corso.
The course will enhance the student’s ability of:
Understanding Vedic, Buddhist and East Asian ideas and theories on practices and anthropo-tecniques (in philosophy, religions, literature, mythology, ritual studies, meditation) within their respective intellectual context;
Explaining the fundamental ideas about practices within each doctrinal system discussed;
Properly recognizing and using the philosophical and religious lexicon, specific to the doctrines presented in the course.

CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE: gli studenti comprenderanno gli aspetti essenziali della questione religiosa e filosofica relativa alle pratiche e alle antropotecniche nella storia culturale dell’India, del pensiero buddhista e dell’Asia orientale.
CAPACITÀ DI APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE, AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO E ABILITÀ COMUNICATIVE: gli studenti comprenderanno gli aspetti essenziali delle dottrine spiegate. Comprenderanno criticamente tematiche come: pratica, meditazione, ascetismo, antropo-tecniche, yoga, ecc… Inoltre, saranno in grado di esporre il contenuto delle lezioni, formulare giudizi autonomi sulle tematiche spiegate durante le lezioni e usare strumenti bibliografici specifici (manuali, saggi, repertori).
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: the students will understand essential aspects of the religious and philosophical question of practices in the cultural history of Indian, Buddhist and East-Asian thought.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, MAKING JUDGEMENTS, COMMUNICATION SKILLS: the students will understand the essential aspects of the doctrines explained. They will critically understand themes such as practice, meditation, ascetics, anthropo-techniques, yoga, etc... Moreover, they will be able to present the content of the lectures and make autonomous judgements on the subjects explained during the lectures and will familiarize with specific bibliographical tools (handbooks, essays, reference works).

Modalità di insegnamento
L’insegnamento è strutturato in 36 ore di lezioni frontali a cura dei tre docenti incaricati. In aggiunta, si predisporrà del materiale per la didattica a distanza. Gli studenti sono pregati di contattare congiuntamente i docenti per ottenere il materiale di studio.

The lectures will consist of 36 hours of taught classes, held by the three appointed lecturers. In addition, the lecturers are planning to add some audio-visual material for distant learning. The students are encouraged to contact the lecturers in order to receive this material.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L’apprendimento degli argomenti delle lezioni verrà testato attraverso un esame orale in inglese. Nel corso dell’esame, verranno approfonditi tre argomenti, il primo dei quali a scelta dello studente, mentre gli altri due saranno a scelta del docente. Per ciascun argomento, saranno possibili più domande, volte a individuare il livello di comprensione degli argomenti da parte dello studente. Il voto dell’esame sarà espresso in trentesimi (minimo 18/30, massimo 30L/30).
Learning will be tested through an oral examination in English. During the exam, three subjects will be discussed. The first of them will be chosen by the student. Each subject would be tested through various questions, whose aim is to understand the level of knowledge reached by the student. The examination grade will be ranged between 18/30 (minimum) to 30 cum laude/30 (maximum).
It is possible to take part in two forums (just take one of the two available) about specific subjects faced during the lectures. Before taking part in the forums, please read the essays and look at the videos enlisted.
The period available for discussions in the forums will expire at April 10th 2020 at midnight.
Participation to the forums is non compulsory. Taking part to the forum can be considered as a part of the exam, as the second subject. (The first subject will be still chosen by the student). Relevant questions, observations and peer tutoring messages, will be evaluated, if the participants will write at least 500 words.

Programma
Un’introduzione alle pratiche e antropo-tecniche nella storia intellettuale asiatica.
Docenti incaricati: Alberto Pelissero (titolare), Matteo Cestari, Gianni Pellegrini
Per la vastità degli argomenti trattati il programma si svilupperà nel corso di due anni accademici, con una parte generale comune e una parte specifica.
Alberto Pelissero nelle sue lezioni (6 ore) fornirà un'introduzione generale alle religioni e filosofie dell'India e alla letteratura sulle pratiche realizzative.
Gianni Pellegrini nelle sue lezioni (12 ore) a partire da una prospettiva epistemologica, cosmologica e metafisica e tratterà degli aspetti essenziali delle tematiche relative alle pratiche e antropo-tecniche, soprattutto legate all’essere umano, ai rituali e al fenomeno dello yoga.
Matteo Cestari nelle sue lezioni (18 ore) tratterà delle pratiche meditative nel Buddhismo e di pratiche di individuazione nel pensiero daoista, a partire dalla prospettiva degli studi religiosi e della filosofia. Particolare rilevanza teorica verrà data all’approccio biopolitico di Michel Foucault e alla filosofia pratica di Nishida Kitarō e si discuterà della questione della tecnica in relazione al tema della pratica e del corpo.
An Introduction to Asian Thought. Practices and Anthropo-techniques.

Due to the length of the subject discussed, the program will be developed in two academic years, with a general part common to both the courses and a specific part.
Alberto Pelissero lectures (6 hours) will give a general outline of Indian religions and philosophies and of literary sources regarding several kind of practices.
Gianni Pellegrini lectures (12 hours) will outline the fundamental epistemological, cosmological and metaphysical concepts of Indian philosophy concerning practices and anthropo-technics, mainly related to human being, rituals and the yoga phenomenon.
Matteo Cestari lectures (18 hours) will deal with meditative practices in Buddhism and individuating practices in Daoism, from the perspective of religious studies and philosophy. Particular theoretical importance will be given to Michel Foucault’s biopolitics and Nishida Kitarō’s practical philosophy. Moreover, the question of technology will be discussed in relation to the problem of practice and the body.
