Lo studente acquisirà un solido background sulle lingue del Corno d'Africa nei loro aspetti storici e tipologici.
Acquisirà inoltre nozioni su tecniche di raccolta e registrazione dei dati orali e sul loro trattamento linguistico.
Aim of the classes is to provide the student with a sound background on the languages of the Horn of Africa, with a focus on their history and typology.
The student will also be able to collect and record oral data and linguistcally analyze them.

Introduzione alla linguistica del Corno d'Africa
Il corso offrirà un'introduzione alla linguistica del Corno d'Africa mettendo l'accento sugli aspetti descrittivi e tipologici.
Argomenti del corso saranno:

An introduction to the linguistics of the Horn of Africa
The course will offer a descriptive- and typologycally-oriented introduction to the linguistics of the Horn of Africa.
The following topics will be covered:
- division and classification of the languages of the Horn of Africa
- main phonological features of the languages of the Horn
- main typological features of the languages of the Horn
- history of the Ethiosemitic languages: from Ge'ez to modern Amharic
- introduction to the Ethiopic suyllabary
- the internal classification of Cushitic
- gender and number in Cushitic
- topic and focus in Cushitic
